Corby Warriors Spears 4 v Thrapston Town
1
The last of our run of difficult games and with a new Man of the Match trofee to be won we all were eager to stop our run of narrow lost games. Weather was bitter cold, but it did not put us off.
From the kick off we were under pressure. As a team and individually Corby was the better of us. Despite brave defending of Chris and Daniel the chances went Corby way. Many corners and a few near misses kept Bram in goal very busy. A poor goal kick and the Thrapston players to far from their own goal gave Corby the well deserved goal. We started to get into the game and a strong corner from Braeden gave Jack P our first chance, but we could not put it away.
1-0 at half time gave us hope of turning the match around. This hope was quickly quashed as Corby mounted a concentrated series of attacks. Chris in goal and strong tackles of Jack R. and Daniel could not be faulted but the quick rate of change gave Corby a healthy lead of 4-0. We stabilized and good midfield work of Bram and Kyle started to put pressure the other way. Jack P played to his normal good standards and gave us our goal.
Kyle and Braeden had a few good chances and Jack R. continued to defend with no fear or consideration of injury (though the shot to his head did hurt him a bit). In the end we could not improve the score line.
We lost to a better side, but there were a lot of positives. We all played well and showed good effort, despite the cold. Peter and I could not choose a Man of the match, so our captain Kyle decided that Daniel’s strong defending earned him the man of the match.
Next week no match, so training starts at 10.30 on Saturday at Thrapston school.
