This was always going to be a tough game against a very strong Wellingborough who have only been beaten once this season. Wellingborough got off to a good start and scored a goal within the first minute. This unsettled us a bit and it took a while for us to get into our stride. Some good saves from Chris and some brave defending from Bram and Daniel meant the score remained 1 –0 at half time, despite some good breaks by Jack P, who took a nasty knock just before the break. Thrapston started strong in the second half with some great attacking play from Ryan and Kyle, who managed to score one of the greatest goals we have seen this season, a lob from inside our own half which caught the Wellinborough goalie off his line. At one all the pace of the game went up a notch or two. Alex performed some remarkable saves and looked entirely at home in the goal. A great shot from a Wellingborough striker from the edge of the penalty area eventually had Alex beat with five minutes to spare. To our credit we never gave up chasing and attacking, stringing some really clever and effective movements together. With only a few minutes left Jack R was fowled just outside the Wellingborough penalty area, but managed to get the pass away to Kyle, the referee played the advantage and Kyle went on to score his second of the game, slotting it to the left of the keeper.
The score ended 2-2, which seemed a fair result. Both teams battled hard and could have equally won. Our man of the match was Alex “the cat” Lloyd for some great saves which kept us in the game in the second half, well done Alex.
